In the 4,000-square-foot (371.6-square-meter) Pick and Go unmanned supermarket, consumers can use the app to scan a QR code to sign up for an account or use a membership card to enter the store. There are 150 cameras installed in the store. These cameras are installed in various corners to observe the goods on the shelves and use image recognition software to track consumer behavior. The sensors on the shelves work with the cameras in the store to determine which items the consumer has taken.
The Tesco app or the screen showing the bill will prompt the consumer to take away the merchandise, and when the consumer walks out of the supermarket, the fee is deducted from the consumer's account.
At present, Tesco's Pick and Go unmanned supermarkets are not suitable for selling bananas or potatoes that need to be weighed, and are more suitable for selling RFID-enabled products.
